Barbara Williams
President
My Name is Barbara Williams I was born and raised in Weed CA. I went to Weed Elementary, Weed High School and College of the Siskiyou. I have one son, 2 grandsons and two great grands. My interest include going to church, reading and my “Sisters” book club, cooking, going to the movies and attending my kids games.
I currently have over 20 years working as a real estate agent. I have built my business securing ‘referrals only’ by successfully helping clients achieve results they expected while creating a supportive, positive experience that keeps them coming back. In addition to honesty and integrity. I believe the key to success is good communication and listening patiently.
My background comes with 35 years working in the telecommunications industry in various capacities with my last 10 years as a manager, I started in operator services then engineering, in my non management years I was a CWA union steward each year I worked with United Way Employee Giving Campaign helping non profit organizations raise money for worthy community organizations. I partnered with countless non profit agencies and their representative facilitating meetings with AT&T employees throughout Sacramento. I also toured the agencies so that I could see first hand the services they provided. Years later mental illness impacted my family personally, due to the struggles we encountered it was a natural fit when my sisters and I started our own nonprofit (LAF) Love Anthony Foundation.

I graduated from San Jose State University and obtained a Masters in Education from Stanford. I was blessed to be a Science and Physical Education teacher for 30 years. Dorothy and I have been married 56 years and have a son, Brian, and a daughter, Jennifer. I was blessed to excel in several sales positions including real estate and investments. I was privileged to be an elder and President of the elder committee in three Evangelical churches. I head my high school reunions, and set up our 50th and 60th reunions. I also wrote When I Was a Kid, Comes Judgment, and Tell the Truth, which are yet to qualify for Oprah's book club. I am blessed and highly favored by my savior, Jesus Christ.

I was born in Denver, Colorado in 1948 and spent much of my childhood in Madison, Wisconsin. I moved to Berkeley, California, when I was 12 years old. On August 28, 1974, I came to Weed as the first Black teacher at Weed Union Elementary School. I soon found there was little information about the Black community in the historical record. I decided to do something about that by writing a history about the African American people of Weed--that history took the shape of a Master’s Thesis from CSU Chico. The thesis was completed in 1984 and titled The Black Minority of Weed--Its History, Institutions, and Politics. I found that Long Bell Lumber Company was responsible for bringing many African Americans to Weed in the early 20th century. Twenty-six years later, I was the co-producer with Mark Oliver on the film “From the Quarters to Lincoln Heights.” Currently, I’m working with a group of friends to build a world class museum in Lincoln Heights. We are in the process of working with the Fieldwork organization. They are mentoring us for the next two years. Our organization is titled “The Lincoln Heights Legacy Project.”

I was born and raised in Weed, CA, attending both Weed Elementary and Weed HIgh School. Ten years after graduation from college, I returned to Weed to raise my own family. The history and traditions that were shared with me by my elders I now pass on to my sons. I am very knowledgeable about all aspects of our community- the emigration from the lumber mills of the south to the mills of the Northwest, the early neighborhoods that emerged within the city, and the social structure and interactions of the people. I am inspired by my ancestors and want to share my knowledge and experience as a vital member of the Lincoln Heights Legacy Project.
I earned a BA in Social Welfare and Corrections from CSU Chico and spent nearly two decades working for the California Department of Corrections, including as a correctional counselor and parole agent. I have also remained active in preserving and supporting local and African American history through service with the Weed Historic Lumbertown Museum, the College of the Siskiyous Scholarship Foundation, and the Colonel Allensworth State Historical Park Foundation. These experiences strengthen my commitment to preserving and sharing the history of Lincoln Heights for future generations.

Mark Oliver

Mark Oliver has been making art and films for over 40 years. A graduate from UCSD (2005) his films move between the narrative and experimental. All his projects reference some aspect of cultural experience or history. He has received numerous residencies, grants and awards for his films and art. His art projects have been exhibited throughout the US, Mexico and Europe in galleries and museums. and he has produced and directed 4 feature films and numerous videos while living in the Mount Shasta area since 2005. His films and videos have been exhibited in the US and abroad and his 2011 documentary From the Quarters to Lincoln Heights won awards both nationally and internationally. His latest feature The Golden Ghosts (2025) took awards in the US and Germany. www.markoliver.org
